The U.S. Senate overwhelmingly acquitted President Donald J. Trump on both articles of impeachment.  This vote came after a brief trial put together on claims that the President had improper dealings with Ukraine and how his office potentially hampered the investigation.

A number of Congressional Democrats spoke to the media and were dejected after the vote on the Senate floor failed to convict President Trump.  The Democrats were banking on several moderate Republicans in swing states to vote “guilty”, however, they all voted along with the party and a “not guilty” vote.

All Democrats voted “guilty”, and all Republicans voted “not guilty” with the exception of the defiant Senator Mitt Romney (R – Utah).

First Count Vote:

Guilty:  48

Not Guilty:  52

Second Count Vote:

Guilty: 47

Not Guilty:  53

After Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts formally declared trump acquitted of all the charges, the Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R – Kentucky), presented him with the “Golden Gavel” as a thank you for his service.
