Ten Passengers Test Positive For Coronavirus On Cruise Ship

10 people have tested positive for the Coronavirus thus far on the popular cruise liner Diamond Princess.  Roughly 300 of the 3,700 people on board the ship have been tested so far.

Testing began after an 80 year old man from Hong Kong contracted the virus after sailing as a passenger on the ship.

Each of the 10 cases so far have occurred in people over the age of 50.

The man who is believed to be the source of the virus boarded the Diamond Princess cruise liner in Yokohama, Japan on January 20th, 2020, and ended his trip in Hong Kong on January 25th, 2020.  It was only after sailing that he tested positive for the virus.

The Diamond Princess is currently under quarantine as of today.

Passengers and crew on the ship must now remain for 14 days without leaving their cabins, as that is the incubation period for the virus.

The Diamond Princess cruise ship is part of Princess Cruises (owned by Carnival Corp.)
